Post: Occupational Therapist (Band 5)

Base: Cygnet Hospital Beckton, New Dawn Ward (Tier 4 Personality Disorder)

Responsible for:

  • The post holder will be the Occupational Therapist for New Dawn Ward (Tier 4 Personality Disorder).
  • Supervision of 1x OT Assistant.

Responsible to: Head OT (Cygnet Hospital Beckton)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (9:00am - 5:00pm)

Location: 23 Tunnan Leys, Beckton, E6 6ZB

Overview of site/Ward:

New Dawn Ward at Cygnet Hospital Beckton is an 18 bed specialist Tier 4 Personality Disorder service. Women can be admitted to New Dawn if they have a diagnosis of personality disorder, exhibit self-harming behaviour and are able to accept the need for help. Service users can be informal or detained under the Mental Health Act.

We have an in-house MDT wrap around service that is designed to support the individual in our care throughout their journey with us.

The team consists of nurses, doctors, psychologist, psychology assistants, occupational therapist, occupational therapy assistant, social therapists and social worker. This means that we are able to meet the changing needs of our service users as they progress through their care pathway, while ensuring their safety is maintained and their independence supported.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will provide direct clinical care which will encompass OT assessments, treatment and management of individuals / interventions and support for individuals within the service. In this role you will assess, implement and develop an OT treatment programme according to an individual’s identified needs. This will be based upon findings from assessments including associated risks, in order to develop treatment plans accordingly within the multidisciplinary team.

The Successful Candidate should be/have:

  • A registered Occupational Therapist with the HCPC (Health Care Professions Council)
  • RCOT Membership
  • An understanding of Occupational Therapy process/interventions and can take a “hands on” approach
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Passionate about student education
  • Ability to manage demanding clinical presentation
  • Some experience in the field of adult mental health
  • Working as a Band 5 OT or are a newly qualified OT
  • Able to effectively lead a team with support from Senior OT staff

Requirements
